Over the past couple of years, VCs have become more conservative, expecting significant commercial traction and a stellar team to get funding.
The coronavirus has not loosened these criteria. Commercial traction is not a magic phrase that gets you money. The quality of this traction and how that projects into the future matters even more.

Japan's economy won't return to pre-covid levels, says Bloomberg economics report - business news
Japan’s economy won’t return to its pre-pandemic size without structural reforms needed to boost productivity and counter the impact of a shrinking population, according to Bloomberg Economics.
The Covid crisis is extending the delay in implementing reforms and that means the economy’s slow recovery from its record contraction is likely to peak in 2028 with real gross domestic product still below its 2019 level, according to Bloomberg economist Yuki Masujima. The growth trend will then switch to a steady decline with the economy ending up 16% smaller than it was in 2019 by 2050.

No Nord Stream 2? No problem for Germany, economists say - Reuters
FRANKFURT/BERLIN/DUESSELDORF (Reuters) - Abandoning the nearly complete Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany could create a legal mess and nudge up energy costs for European households but Germany would cope with any disruption to supplies, economists say.
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas at the weekend questioned the project — thus far supported by Germany — following the suspected poisoning of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny.
Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokesman reinforced the shift in tone on Monday, saying she shared the view of Maas, who told newspaper Bild am Sonntag: “I certainly hope that the Russians will not force us to change our position on Nord Stream 2.”

LA CROSSE, Wis. — First it was supposed to be "raring to go" by Easter. Then White House officials set their sights on a summer recovery, until a new wave of coronavirus outbreaks undid that plan, too.
