Republican state senators want more time before New York considers potentially lowering the overtime pay threshold for farmworkers.
State Sen. George Borrello, who represents portions of the Southern Tier, is proposing a bill that would delay the Farm Laborers Wage Board's report and recommendations until 2024. The legislation is supported by many of his GOP colleagues, including state Sens. Pam Helming and Jim Seward, both of whom represent districts that include towns in Cayuga County.

24 Cities Where You Must Work Overtime Just to Pay the Rent
Across the nation, rent increases have slightly exceeded wage growth over the past 10 years, according to a report by Self.
The website says data from Zillow and the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show that between 2010 and 2019, the median monthly rent for a one-bedroom home rose by 20.5%, while the median hourly wage grew 17.6%.
But the situation is much tougher along the coasts. According to Self , the gap between wages and rents has "skyrocketed" in a few places:
Why San Francisco Is In Trouble – 19,000 Highly Compensated City Employees Earned $150,000+ In
The San Francisco Bay Area is home to wonders of the modern world like the Golden Gate Bridge and Silicon Valley — as well as powerful progressive politicians like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Governor Gavin Newsom, and U.S. Senator (and vice-presidential hopeful) Kamala Harris.
In fact, the city's $1.5 billion budget deficit isn't stopping 18,759 highly compensated employees from each bringing home pay packages worth $150,000 (or more) annually.
We found truck drivers loaded up with $262,898; city painters making $270,190; firefighters earning $316,306; and plumbing supervisors cleaning up $348,291 every year . One deputy sheriff earned $574,595 last year – including $315,896 in overtime .

LAPD Officers Are About to Get a Raise—but How Much Do They Make to Begin With?
The situation ratcheted even higher when Councilman Mike Bonin called for delaying a scheduled pay hike for LAPD officers. In an L.A. Times op-ed on Thursday , the District 11 rep lambasted the 4.8 percent raise happening this year (it takes place in two phases) and another pay increase scheduled for next year, at the same time that the city is making $104 million in salary cuts.
Largely overlooked amid the debate is what police personnel earn. Garcetti's budget for the current fiscal year allocates approximately $1.75 billion for LAPD salaries; the entire department budget is approximately $3 billion (including pensions and other expenses).
Feds order 3 Miami-based dialysis providers to pay overtime to 34 employees
MIAMI – Three Miami-based dialysis providers must pay $110,819 in back wages to 34 employees for violations in overtime and recordkeeping laws, the U.S. Department of Labor announced on Tuesday.
Investigators with the DOL's wage and hour division determined Olympus Healthcare Inc., Apollo Renal Center LLC, and Americare Renal Center LLC incorrectly classified the employees as independent contractors.
The companies were paying the employees a flat fee per patient seen while ignoring that they were working more than 40 hours a week and were not being paid overtime, according to DOL.
