North Ridgeville residents complain about business mix; new businesses in plaza - cleveland.com

North Ridgeville mayor speaks to residents on business mix as well as actions a city may or not be able to take.

NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – North Ridgeville Mayor Kevin Corcoran has been getting some complaints from residents wanting more diversified businesses in the city. The mayor spoke on the issue letting residents know the city doesn't have control over what businesses come into the city and purchase land for their businesses.

"As we begin to wind down from all of the capital improvement projects," Corcoran said, "I want to talk about economic development and free enterprise. Free enterprise refers to an economy where businesses are free from government control.

It’s intended to “provide short-term working capital for the retention and/or creation of jobs for low-to-moderate income persons” and to help businesses “restart operations after being closed due to the pandemic,” according to a press release from the city.

Woodland Mall to host Black-owned business showcase - mlive.com

KENTWOOD, MI — Shoppers will have an opportunity to check out products from 40 regional businesses participating in Woodland Mall's Black-owned Business Showcase on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Businesses participating in the event sell a range of products, from shoes, jewelry, cosmetics and skin care to kitchen items, food, stationary and cards, and health and wellness items, according to a news release from Woodland Mall, 3195 28th St. SE.

"Our vision is to provide a venue where Black-owned businesses can come together under one roof to showcase who they are and what they offer to our entire community," said Benjamin Robinson, the owner of Robinson Popcorn, who operates a pop corn cart at the mall and suggested that Woodland host the event.

Detroit business striving to embrace community unity

The bottom line for the company is about much more than making money. It is about building a greater sense of community.

As the founder of Featherstone, Juan Carlos Dueweke-Perez, wears many hats. The company is a digital marketing and public relations firm that serves businesses in Detroit.

"Well, I started out the company back in 2015 as a photographer. And it was really evident that media and that public relations, and that marketing in general is like the service that is needed in every single business...We had to create a model that would make it more accessible to a lot of different businesses," said Dueweke-Perez.
