While the audit conducted by an independent firm found some minor issues with police details reporting, the firm also said changes in policies and procedures needed to be made for how police overtime is documented and approved.
The audit of the fiscal 2019 budget and the recommendations are in the City Council agenda for the upcoming meeting. CliftonLarsonAllen LP in Boston conducted the audit.
The audit discovered "several matters that are opportunities for strengthening internal controls and operating efficiency," the firm wrote.

Lord & Taylor Settles Sales Associate's Wage Lawsuit
Letter: Democrats have your back - Opinion - Holland Sentinel - Holland, MI
The last 85 years, Democrats have enacted landmark legislation boosting the wages and benefits of workers to create the middle class in America.
In 1945, President Harry Truman (D) proposed national healthcare, and labor unions took up the cause. When auto unions obtained healthcare coverage for their employees, non-union shops and white-collar workers also gained coverage.
In 1965, President Lyndon Johnson (D) established healthcare for seniors with another earned benefit, Medicare, and for low-income Americans with Medicaid.
SEPTA managers, cops earn double salaries amid agency fiscal crisis - WHYY
At SEPTA, transit police officers earn more than the police chief they report to. Mid-level managers pull in more money than executives. And some employees earn nearly twice what their peers make for doing the same job.
* * *
Labor costs account for about 70% of SEPTA’s $1.5 billion budget, and the agency shelled out nearly $59 million just in overtime payments for the fiscal year ending in June 30, 2020. But the overtime money was not distributed equally, with fully half of all OT payments going to just 800 employees, or less than 10% of SEPTA's 9,200-strong workforce.

Jasper County sheriff disputes records showing $1M budget overage
Jasper County records show that Sheriff Chris Malphrus' office overspent its budget by more than $900,000 in the 2019 fiscal year and more than $400,000 in 2018. Though this year's budget numbers are not yet finalized, they indicate that Malphrus' office overspent its budget by more than $1 million.
County Council recently asked its attorney to seek advice from the South Carolina attorney general about how to handle the most recent overage. Meanwhile, Malphrus disputes the county's budget numbers for the 2020 fiscal year and says there were reasons he had to overspend the office's budget in previous years.
Auditors: More state police needed to control surging overtime
State police union members rally at the State Capitol in August 2011, when then-Gov. Dannel P. Malloy sought concessions from state employee unions.
More than half of the state troopers surveyed in a recent audit earned more overtime than base pay, including some who more than doubled their regular salaries.
But there's no easy way to reduce state police overtime pay when the number of troopers is down nearly 20% from a decade ago, when their ranks still fell nearly 200 positions short of a statutory minimum.
Why EA's popularity seems to be on the decline of late
Electronic Arts is one of the largest gaming companies in the world. It owns some of the most popular gaming franchises, including FIFA , Madden , Sims , and Need for Speed . Furthermore, EA earns more than $5 billion a year.
However, all this success hasn't stopped it from getting quite a bad reputation in the gaming industry.
Electronic Arts was founded by Trip Hawkins , a former Apple employee who wanted to start his own video game publishing company, back in 1982 . Originally, the organization was called Amazin' Software , and initially survived due to considerable private investment from outside. Regardless, the early games were not a huge success.
Memo on Supreme Court Delay Tactics Circulates Among Senate Democrats
President Donald Trump has nominated Judge Amy Coney Barrett to replace the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court, setting up a ferocious confirmation battle as votes are already being cast for the November 3 election.
Amy Coney Barrett wrote the 7th Circuit opinion last month siding with Grubhub to say drivers cannot press for minimum wage and overtime pay as a class action, they must use arbitration agreements, a decision that limits gig workers across the country. https://t.co/WG5DOaQk9g
