BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Sweeping tax cuts proposed Tuesday by Idaho lawmakers would slash assessments on all income brackets and lower the sales tax from 6% to 5.3% beginning next year.
The complex, 17-page proposal was introduced in a House committee after Republican Gov. The proposed bill estimates it would result in $284 million in tax relief a year.

College graduates get stimulus checks
Jonah Yonker, a 23-year-old software developer in Orlando, never received either COVID-19 stimulus check, but that's about to change.
Last year, Congress passed two relief packages that sent $1,800 in two waves to taxpayers. However, college students who were dependents of their parents did not receive the money.
Now, almost a year after the first wave of stimulus checks, people such as Yonker will see that cash come through as they file their tax returns for 2020.

Fiscal Policy Institute Talks Taxes
At stake: billions of dollars in for health care and schools as well as local governments. There is also the concern that richer people could leave New York as a result of increasing taxes, depleting the tax base in the process.
The clock is ticking, however, for the legislature and the governor as the budget is expected to pass by March 31, the end of the state's fiscal year.
