A Twin Cities-area grocer will pay 81 workers a total of more than $212,000 in overtime back wages after an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor.
The Department of Labor said Supermercado Lomabonita, which has five metro locations, failed to pay overtime to its cooks, butchers, bakers and cashiers, in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
According to the department, the business paid employees "straight time" for all hours worked instead of overtime pay, failed to combine hours employees worked at multiple sites in the same week, failed to maintain accurate records of employees' hours, and considered some employees exempt from overtime, in violation of the law.

Guam contractor withheld overtime pay, labor agency says
The U.S. Department of Labor recovered $202,390 after Asian Construction Development Corp., a Guam contractor, withheld overtime pay for 43 construction workers from the Philippines.
The construction workers left the Philippines, according to a news release, for Guam through a federal temporary work visa program.
Investigators found the contractor paid workers for their first 40 hours each week by check and recorded these payments in their payroll records. But Asian Construction Development Corp. paid for any overtime hours employees worked in cash, at straight-time rates, and kept a separate, unreported record of these overtime hours, the release stated.

A grocery store chain has been ordered to pay $212,459 in wages it owed its workers for overtime following a federal investigation.
Supermercado Lomabonita has been ordered to pay the amount after the U.S. Department of Labor found it had failed to pay overtime to its "cooks, butchers, bakers and cashiers."
There were 81 affected employees, who work at Supermercado Lomabonitas in Crystal, Savage, Hilltop (Anoka County), St. Paul and Monticello.
Labor agency: Dededo construction company withheld overtime pay
The U.S. Department of Labor recovered $51,481 after Konstrak Builders withheld overtime pay for 23 construction workers, according to a news release from the agency.
The Guam contractor misclassified employees as independent contractors, according to the release, and kept inaccurate payrolls.'
The U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division penalized the company $10,000 for the willful nature of the violations, the release stated.
Myrtle Beach Ben & Jerry's locations center of federal child labor, wage investigation
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - Some Ben & Jerry's locations in Myrtle Beach were the center of a recent investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor, according to officials.
The department said earlier this week that 61 employees received a total of $16,250 in back wages after the franchisee failed to pay overtime at six locations. Investigators said Bryers of MB Inc. and Rowland Dairies Inc., which operate all six facilities, paid workers straight time for all of the hours they worked.
