Five strategies for post-pandemic small business success in Ogden | Business | standard.net

The challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic hardships in Ogden can make last year a difficult year to look back on. Nearly half of small business owners surveyed in the last Wells Fargo Small Business Index reported decreases in revenues, while the prospect of closing their business was most frequently ranked as the top concern. Nonetheless, even the most challenging times in Utah can yield opportunities for the future.

Nearly one third (29%) of businesses planned to start using a website last year. Luckily for those that followed through on that plan, having a strong online presence, user experience and functionality can not only be a competitive advantage in Ogden but also critical to a business's survival. Eighty-six percent of consumers rely on the internet to find a local business.

Positive Business Outcomes Need Cyber Secure Compliance

It is surprising that cybersecurity conversations occurring throughout the industry today would be boring most average people. While important, the discussions are usually filled with tech jargon, which can undermine the value of cybersecurity by going over the heads of key decision makers. The proper mindset for cybersecurity should never be framed as a technical solution; cybersecurity matters are business matters that carry tangible business outcomes.

Companies today are dealing with a hyper-fluid state of their data. We see it in mobile applications, remote office scenarios, distant facility geolocation, boundless cloud environments, and more. Data moves and then rests. The reality is that it all needs to be protected against threats and risks whether moving or resting.

Sweet success may be on tap for business | Rome Daily Sentinel

WESTERNVILLE — The maple business is “kind of new to us,” says Peter Donahue, who has been running a farm for about 25 years but has been tapping trees there for only about six years and selling associated equipment for about four years.

A friend who was making maple syrup helped Donahue get started with the endeavor after the friend saw “more potential here.” Since then, Donahue adds with a chuckle, “my wife said the hobby got out of control.”

Business: ‘No sail’ order lifted but cruise lines not moving

A new app to help travelers store and manage their certifications for Covid-19 tests and vaccines is set to launch next month – a travel pass that the International Air Transport Association hopes will be the key to reopening borders and getting the world flying again without the need for quarantine. The app includes a global registry of health requirements so passengers can check what’s needed in order to enter their destination.

The CDC says nearly four months after it lifted its "no-sail" order in the U.S., no cruise operator has applied for a conditional sailing certificate. The certificate is a cruise company's ticket to start generating revenue again after a yearlong hiatus. Major operators Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian expect to lift their U.S. sailing suspension May 1.

How to handle small business negotiations

As a small business owner, you're going to negotiate many things – prices, deadlines, contract terms. And, unfortunately, you may find yourself in many disputes – with vendors, customers, distributors or others. When you do, I want you to remember a little mantra I say whenever I'm in a negotiation or dispute: "Settle for victory."

What do I mean by "Settle for victory"? I mean concentrating on finding a positive outcome for yourself rather than focusing on "defeating" the other side.

Deloitte: The Future of Racial Equity Depends on Business Taking Bold Action Now

Yet most organizations continue to narrowly focus diversity and inclusion efforts on their talent instead of driving equity throughout their entire enterprise and external relationships.

The future of racial equity in the United States : potential scenarios
Driving systemic change requires a clearer understanding of what the next 10-15 years could look like, and Deloitte's research informed four potential scenarios.

Powerful actions to drive change
Racism and inequity are systemic problems that require a systemic response. In its Equity Activation Model, Deloitte creates a systems-based view of organizational influence across three pillars — Workforce, Marketplace, and Society — that traditionally lead to financial and operational outcomes in business but have the power to create racial equity as an outcome.
