VALDOSTA — Wiregrass President Dr. Tina K. Anderson has announced the college’s accounting certificate program has been ranked fifth in the nation by Best Value Schools.org website. 

Best Value Schools helps students to choose the best accounting certificate programs in the state and nation, Wiregrass Georgia Technical College officials said in a statement. The distinction is based on a combination of tuition cost, quality of education, graduation rates and student-to-faculty ratio.

Kristie Henry, Taylor Penick, Veronica Sims, Tiffany Cutting, Madison Haug, Taylor Oliver and Viola Straley all received promotions.

Henry, Penick and Sims stepped into senior manager roles. Cutting was promoted to manager. Haug and Oliver are now senior accountants. Straley stepped into the staff accountant role.

Henry joined the Varney team in 2013. She received a bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting and a master of accountancy from Kansas State University. She is a certified public accountant.

Tax accountants warn about COVID-19 scams during tax season | WVNS

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS)– It is that time of year when people begin to dig up old receipts and pay stubs because many people will begin to file their taxes soon.

Tax accountants want to warn people of stimulus and tax return scams. As we get closer to the season, many scammers will try to take advantage of those unprepared.

Accounting for the gaps in ancient food webs -- ScienceDaily

If you want to understand an ecosystem, look at what the species within it eat. In studying food webs -- how animals and plants in a community are connected through their dietary preferences -- ecologists can piece together how energy flows through an ecosystem and how stable it is to climate change and other disturbances.

"When things die and get preserved as fossils, all the stuff that isn't bones and teeth and shells just decays," says the Santa Fe Institute's Vice President for Science Jennifer Dunne, a veteran food web researcher. "Organisms that are primarily soft-bodied, they usually just disappear from the record altogether."
