AUSTIN, Texas — Texas is once again shaking up its standardized testing contracts, signing four-year agreements totaling $388 million with two companies to develop and administer its controversial State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness exams for public school students.

Cambium Assessment, a Washington D.C.-based testing company, will receive $262 million from 2021 through 2024 to manage the administration, scoring and reporting of all student assessments on one online platform.

Cleona Borough Council discusses end of year budget results
In spite of a pandemic-dominated year with a late autumn snow storm, borough secretary Melody Vanderveer told Cleona Borough Council the borough's budget ended up in the black. She said the budget had a projected deficit, but on Dec. 31 there was actually a sizeable surplus in the borough's coffer.
Council president James O'Connor noted that tax revenues were higher than anticipated. Vanderveer also noted that the lack of a salary for a borough manager and no employee health insurance premiums for the administration office helped create the surplus.
