Less than 9 percent of accounting professionals in the United States are Black, according to the National Association of Black Accountants , despite the fact that Black individuals make up nearly 14 percent of the population.
Since graduating from Butler University in 1996, Herschel Frierson has been working to change that.

SEC chief accountant Sagar Teotia stepping down next month | Accounting Today
Sagar Teotia, chief accountant at the Securities and Exchange Commission, plans to leave the SEC at the end of February.
The SEC said Wednesday that Teotia will be concluding his tenure next month after six years at the commission. He has been leading the SEC's Office of Chief Accountant since 2019 after serving as deputy chief accountant. No successor has been named, but deputy chief accountant, John Vanosdall, is likely to succeed him. Vanosdall has been leading the accounting group at the Office of Chief Accountant.
