Biden stimulus plan faces uphill battle through Congress, Republicans - Business Insider

It also sets aside funds to boost food stamps, dramatically ramp up vaccine distribution, and renew a paid leave program through September among other measures. The package is over twice the size of the stimulus law approved by President Barack Obama at start of his term in 2009, reflecting a shift among Democrats on their approach to emergency spending during a crisis.

"Republicans have made it clear they're not going to go for something of this size," Jim Manley, a former senior Democratic aide and now a political strategist, told Insider. "I can't imagine Republicans going for a package like this that includes minimum wage."

Higher-yielding U.S. muni bonds cheer Biden's state, city budget relief | Financial Post

CHICAGO — A big burst of federal aid for U.S. states and local governments in Democratic President-elect Joe Biden's massive fiscal stimulus plan helped higher-yielding debt from lower-rated issuers in the U.S. municipal bond market on Friday.

While Municipal Market Data's (MMD) benchmark triple-A yield scale was unchanged in the wake of the Thursday evening unveiling of Biden's $1.9 trillion proposal, the prospect for $350 billion in new federal funding enhanced the attractiveness of debt from financially troubled issuers, according to Greg Saulnier, MMD managing analyst.

TCL reveals first Android tablet with e-ink-like NXTPAPER screen, plus stylus-equipped budget

TCL produces some of the better Android tablets currently available, if you don't want one of Samsung's various Galaxy Tabs for some reason. The company released a budget 8-inch tablet a few months ago for Verizon, and now TCL is showing off two new options during CES 2021 — one with a new experimental display technology, and a cheaper option targeted at home and educational use.

This tablet is a bit of a weird one — instead of a traditional IPS or AMOLED screen, TCL has opted to use its own 'NXTPAPER' technology for the display. The tech was first announced last year as a possible e-ink competitor, and like e-ink, it primarily uses natural light for displaying content. TCL says the screen has 25% better contrast than most e-ink tablets and provides "smoother video playback", while still consuming about 65% less power than an LCD screen.
