Budget 2021: Sanjiv Bajaj Bats For Bad Bank, Bank Investment Company And DFI

A three-year plan is what Sanjiv Bajaj hopes Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present on Feb. 1 as she delivers the budget speech. A plan that details expenditure support and deficit control.

Some of the Covid-relief measures such as food grain assistance to the poor or sops for small businesses should continue into the next financial year, said Bajaj, vice president of industry lobby CII. Alongside these short-term measures, the government ought to detail a medium-term spending plan to stimulate growth, especially as the private sector is still sitting on idle capacity, he told BloombergQuint in an interview.

Oil and gas companies seek pandemic relief in the upcoming Budget | Hellenic Shipping News

While the price of crude oil in India did not go into negative territory, it remained low enough to strain exploration and production (E&P) companies.

Crude oil in India is traded close to the Brent, a price that is the benchmark for African, European, and Middle Eastern crude oil.

"With Brent trading below $45 a barrel for most of the financial year, domestic oil companies have faced severe headwinds.

For Indian exploration companies, the sustainable price is $45 a barrel of Brent, but a viable price is closer to $65 a barrel where they make a margin. Any price below these levels makes it difficult for oil companies to operate," said an E&P company executive.

At the Jan. 20 board meeting of the West Sonoma County Union High School District (WSCUHSD), the superintendent and chief business official reported on its shifting financial outlook and measures, including possible breakthroughs in Gov. Gavin Newsom's state budget proposal to be worked over in the state legislature in the coming months.
