Greenville County School Board approves employee bonus, COVID-19 leave

Greenville County School Board approves employee bonus, COVID-19 leave

Teachers and staff in Greenville County will soon be receiving a pay bonus, in addition to extra hours of paid time off if they need to quarantine because of COVID-19.

Greenville County School Board Trustees unanimously voted for two recommendations from the administration: The extension of COVID-19 leave through August and the distribution of a bonus to all school district employees.

The COVID-19 leave extension, which will mimic the parameters of the federal FMLA leave that expired Dec. 31, will be funded through the coronavirus relief fund, the district said Friday.

New York farm workers await decision on overtime pay | NY State | hudsonvalley360.com

ALBANY — The way farm workers are paid in New York state could drastically change, pending the decision of a panel charged with making such recommendations. But it seems the panel will likely wait until the last minute.

The three-member Farm Wage Board was appointed earlier this year to parse out one of the more controversial points of the New York Fair Labor Practices Act, which instituted a broad array of new standards for farms. The 2019 law included a 60-hour threshold after which workers must receive overtime pay — time and a half — as well as a mandatory day of rest and collective bargaining rights.

Overtime for Philly workers hit a record $200 million this year.

Mayor Jim Kenney's administration is in the final stages of developing a plan to reduce spending on overtime pay, after the city spent a record $200 million in the last fiscal year.

By the end of the month, Philadelphia is expected to deliver to the state board that oversees city finances a proposal that outlines how it will reduce overtime costs in each department and monitor such outlays. It comes as that board, the Pennsylvania Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority (PICA), has voiced concern that the city exceeded its annual overtime allocation for 10 straight years, and as Philadelphia faces a dire financial situation due to the coronavirus pandemic.
