The federal court in the Northern District of Texas has granted conditional certification to the plaintiffs against Baylor Scott & White Health, where they allege that their employer docked their pay unfairly. The certification will allow the plaintiff’s lawyers to send notice to all qualifying BSW employees to see if they would like to join the lawsuit with the original 18 plaintiffs.
Employees who met the qualifications and worked for the defendants after April 6, 2017, can opt into the lawsuit, the court filing says.

DOL Issues New Regulations to Sharpen FLSA Employee/Independent Contractor Classifications: What
A worker’s classification under the FLSA determines their entitlement to minimum wage and overtime pay, and determines whether an employer is obligated to maintain certain records mandated by the FLSA. Misclassifying workers can lead to significant exposure for unpaid wages, unpaid taxes, and class action lawsuits. In other words, a worker’s classification is a big deal, and it ought to be carefully considered.
Many in public sector waiting multiple pay periods to be paid overtime - KUAM.com-KUAM News: On
They're frontliners, but when it comes to overtime pay, it seems like they're left on the back of the bus. According to Guam Federation of Teachers union representative Robert Koss, several GovGuam essential workers have been waiting for several weeks to receive compensation for the extra hours they've been putting in.
"I don't know if the Governor realizes it but the temper of many of the public employees is boiling. You know, these people are angry," said Koss. "They played by a certain set of rules and they expect the government to play by the same rules, and when the government doesn't play by the rules, you know, people are getting very angry."
Audit: Louisiana state workers decrease, but pay costs rise
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana’s state government employee ranks have thinned over the last seven years, but the decline in workers hasn’t dropped the state payroll’s costs, according to a new audit released Monday.
Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera’s office found that the number of state workers across dozens of executive branch agencies in Louisiana fell by nearly 4% from the 2012-13 budget year through the 2019-20 budget year.

Why Biden and Democrats might not push employee status for gig workers - The Washington Post
The future of gig workers — including Uber drivers, DoorDash couriers, and other app workers — is likely to emerge as the most explosive labor issue for the incoming Biden administration, threatening to aggravate the tensions between the centrist and more corporate-friendly wing of the Democratic Party and the fired-up progressives on the left.
Although Biden's campaign platform called for gig workers to be classified as employees, narrow Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate and those intraparty philosophical rifts could block Democrats from reaching agreement on gig worker rights.

Brazil Adjusts Minimum Salary for "Hyper-Sufficient" Employees | Littler - JDSupra
The minimum monthly salary requirement for “hyper-sufficient” employees has gone up in Brazil. Companies with operations in Brazil that employ this distinct category of employees will therefore need to verify whether the current salaries of these workers are above the minimum threshold, or take immediate steps to adjust their compensation before the last payroll of the month.
Under the Brazilian Labor Code, a hyper-sufficient employee is an employee who holds a college degree and receives a salary that is equivalent to at least twice the Social Security’s benefit cap. Hyper-sufficient employees, are, therefore, considered capable of negotiating and entering into certain agreements with their employer, including certain amendments to their terms and conditions of employment, without the need for the union’s or any other entity’s assistance.
