Weedshare: Uber and the hazy economics of cannabis delivery

Throughout the pandemic, food orders boomed for DoorDash , UberEats, and Grubhub . Sales on alcohol delivery app Drizly surged. And then there is California-based cannabis delivery app Eaze, which saw new customer sign ups increase by over 70%. The company calculates that last year in California, a marijuana order was placed every eight seconds.

Eaze is backed by Snoop Dogg , has 800,000 customers, and has made over 7 million deliveries in California since its launch in 2014, but it isn't the only player in the space. There are a handful of cannabis delivery options that serve the entire state, and many more serving smaller regions. MedMen and Caliva offer delivery in California, and across the country, dispensaries offer their own delivery services directly to their community, where it's legal to do so.

'Shortcuts' to increase female enrollment in economics may backfire, OSU study cautions |

Current best practices for encouraging more female students to pursue degrees in economics may actually have the opposite effect and worsen gender disparities in the field, a recent study from Oregon State University found.

"There are no shortcuts to promoting diversity," said study co-author Todd Pugatch, an associate professor and associate director of the economics program in OSU's College of Liberal Arts. "I don't think we went into this expecting there'd be shortcuts or easy fixes, but we also didn't expect there would be such unintended consequences."

BMO Economics: Vaccination Ramp-Up Means Canada Poised for Post-Pandemic Comeback

Full vaccination of majority of population needed to support individuals' confidence to engage in activity

TORONTO , May 28, 2021 /CNW/ - Canada's recent rapid ramp-up in vaccinations, and the possibility of eventually surpassing the U.S. – even on second doses – by August, point to a strong economic rebound in the second half of the year, according to a new report from BMO Economics.

" Canada is likely to post stronger growth rates through much of that period," said Doug Porter , Chief Economist, BMO Financial Group. "This also partly reflects a comeback from a deeper pandemic hole for the economy; third-wave restrictions bit Canada much harder, with growth likely stalling at best in the second quarter.
