Consumption Economics: A Fit-For-Purpose Model for a Transformed World | CIO

Being able to avoid the constraints of a long-term capex investment in a service solution does not simply have the potential to save money, however. It allows a fundamental shift in how CIOs think about their business, according to NetApp's Head of Customer Experience Office, Biren Fondekar.

Consumption-based offerings are an ideal starting point on the way to full cloud-based services, for example by way of providing backup, explains Rohra. "So it's not just a service that you pay by the drip, it's also a steppingstone to migrate to the cloud," she says.

You started your career as a commercial model. How did you decide that acting was also something you wanted to pursue?
When I was 18 months, I started modeling for Gap and Guess. Then, my parents' friends encouraged me to film commercials, which led me to beg my parents to move to L.A. to start pursuing acting. Guest commentary: Observations on democracy and economics | Opinion | readingeagle.com

In the last 30 years I have had the opportunity to travel to two countries that provided powerful lessons on democracy and economics.

It became clear that Brazil was and is a country of extremes. Extremes in that there is a great deal of wealth concentrated in a tiny percentage of the population, and a great deal of poverty shared by millions of Brazilians. One of the results of this reality is crime. Weeks later, the 16 of us Americans were invited to a reception at the U.S. Consulate in São Paulo. As we waited in the lobby of our hotel, a friendly gentleman helped us to call taxis.

Environmental concerns top economics in Alberta coal survey, results show | CBC News

Newly released results from a three-week survey about Alberta coal mining show respondents ranked environmental concerns much higher than its economic impact, with about two-thirds saying the latter was not at all important.

While not a question-by-question breakdown, the survey results released Monday offer a more complete look at the level of public opinion around coal development.

The environmental impact of coal mining was the top-ranked issue in the survey, which received 25,000 responses before it closed last month.
