Kim Kardashian Sued By Former Staff Over Work Conditions

In a suit filed on Monday in Los Angeles, a group of former gardening and maintenance workers have accused Kim Kardashian of a range of worker violations. The lawsuit claims that Kardashian was late with pay, withheld wages for taxes without reporting them to the government, refused to pay overtime, and would make employees work without meal breaks.

Additionally, the court papers, obtained by TMZ , allege workers didn't receive itemized pay stubs, and one former worker claims he was fired after bringing up overtime pay, meal breaks, and the tax issue. Another, who was 16 at the time of employment, claims he was made to work significantly more than the maximum 48 hours allowed for underage summer employees.

Case: Wage & Hour/Exempt Employees (11th Cir.)

The Eleventh Circuit ruled that two farm crew leaders for a fruit harvesting company performed work outside the agriculture exemption to federal overtime pay requirements when they drove seasonal laborers employed under H-2A visas to and from laundromats and grocery stores. The crew leaders allegedly weren't paid the additional compensation required by the Fair Labor Standards Act for hours worked beyond 40 hours per week, the court said.

Farmworker organizing in Washington is undoing discriminatory labor policies — High Country News

Last year, when the COVID-19 pandemic kept most people home and emptied supermarket shelves, U.S. farmworkers stayed on the job. Unable to work from home, they sustained their vital but dangerous industry. But they also organized for better working conditions and pay.

In November, dairy workers won a Washington State Supreme Court case that forced their employers to pay them for overtime work. Federal and state law exempt agricultural workers from certain labor protections, creating a vulnerable class of workers in an industry that depends on minority and migrant labor. The court ruled that the state law preventing overtime payments was unconstitutional.

"Not only that, they are not provided free COVID-19 testing at regular intervals or vaccines on a priority basis, considering that they are frontline workers," the study notes.

The study, 'Dignity Disposed', recommends that the civic body provide adequate safety gear, conduct periodic testing and vaccinate all crematorium workers and their families on a priority basis immediately.

Atlanta elementary teachers to get $3,000 stipend for longer work days

Atlanta elementary teachers will make an extra $3,000 next year for working 30 minutes longer each day.

The district plans to extend the elementary school day by half an hour for the next three years, starting in August. The goal is to provide more time for academic intervention to help students who have struggled during the coronavirus pandemic.

When APS officials first discussed the plan in April they said they were still working out how much salaried employees such as teachers, principals and instructional coaches would be paid for the extra time.

H-2A farm workers' errands not covered by OT exemption: 11th Circuit | Reuters

(Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court has ruled that a Florida fruit-harvesting company should have paid its supervisors overtime for the several hours each week they spent transporting H-2A visa workers to the grocery store, laundromat and bank.

Hours after hearing oral arguments in the case, an 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel on Friday said the errands did not qualify as agricultural work exempt from overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act, because they were not directly connected to Statewide Harvesting & Hauling LLC's agricultural operations.
