White Men Are Now The Minority Of Business Owners In The United States

White men now make up the minority of business owners in the United States, a shift driven by fast growth in women- and LatinX-owned businesses, and one that has profound implications for the country's finance and innovation infrastructure.

"This is a really powerful opportunity for the country to prosper in the future," said Jerry Porras, Lane Professor of Organizational Behavior and Change, Emeritus and Stanford Graduate School of Business and co-director of the Latino Entrepreneurship Program. The new groups of founders are entrepreneurial and determined, he said. But the "ecosystem is not conducive to supporting their success."

Cryptocurrency miners, including HashCow and BTC.TOP, have halted all or part of their China operations after Beijing intensified a crackdown on bitcoin mining and trading, hammering digital currencies amid heightened global regulatory scrutiny.

Cryptocurrency exchange Huobi on Monday suspended both crypto-mining and some trading services to new clients from mainland China, adding it will instead focus on overseas businesses.

The Week in Business: Crypto's Crashes - The New York Times

Good morning and happy Sunday. Here's what you need to know in business and tech news for the week ahead. — Charlotte Cowles

Texas, Oklahoma and Indiana joined more than a dozen other states that are ending federal pandemic unemployment benefits early, citing the need to incentivize people to get back to work. The decision will get rid of the $300-a-week supplement that unemployment recipients have been getting since March and were scheduled to receive through September. It will also end all benefits for freelancers, part-timers and those who have been out of work for more than six months.

Seniors help seniors at Northwest Side business | WGN-TV

CHICAGO — It can be difficult to get the right in-home caregiver for an elderly relative. One business on the Northwest Side pairs seniors who turn out helping one another.

“I have met some of the loveliest people and formed really good friendships,” caregiver Tobey Ellison said.

75-year-old Tobey Ellison is a senior helping seniors, a caregiver about the same age or younger than some of her clients. They have a lot more in common.

Dear Abby: Lonely, loitering senior disrupts business; 'How do we get rid of him?

He bothers customers with his stories and traps them for hours at a time. He has purchased some items, so he is buying from us. But I can tell he just wants a place to hang out. He is loud and intrudes into other people's conversations when they are at the counters. He has also taken a liking to one employee who works Saturdays and has started spending four to five hours every Saturday coming in and trying to make conversation about anything.

DEAR UNPLEASANT: You seem to be a compassionate person. Check out what services are available for seniors in your area. Then explain to the customer that while you appreciate his business, you and your employees have work to do, limited time to do it and cannot socialize with him. Then suggest some places where he can spend time, volunteer, etc.

Survey: Business economists foresee best growth in 37 years - StarTribune.com

WASHINGTON — The nation's business economists have grown much more optimistic about the U.S. economy this year, with a majority predicting that increased vaccinations, stronger job gains and further government aid will accelerate growth to its fastest pace in nearly four decades.

A survey being released Monday by the National Association for Business Economics found that its panel expects the economy to expand 6.5% this year. That would be the sharpest such increase since 1984, when the nation was also emerging from a deep recession.
