OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Nebraska lawmakers will return to their legislative session Monday for the first time in almost four months with most of the same challenges they faced back in March, plus new questions about how the coronavirus will squeeze the state budget.
Most lawmakers still want to lower property taxes and pass a new tax incentive program for businesses, although they acknowledge that one won't pass without the other because neither measure has enough backing to advance by itself. Rural lawmakers are pushing for the property tax measure to ease pressure on farmers and ranchers, while the business incentives are mostly of interest to Omaha and Lincoln senators.

RH Line for July 19, 2020: Sales taxes and face masks – Loveland Reporter-Herald
There was an article in the RH Herald the other day about a sales tax for the fire department that's going to be sunsetting in 2022 that they want to make permanent. Now we got a lot of these taxes, not just for the fire department, but for instance last year they were asking for a sales tax increase for the fire department.
I see that the Weld County sheriff is not going to enforce wearing a mask. Well, you know, that's picking and choosing what laws they're going to enforce. They are in the office to enforce all laws. That would be like a citizen saying I'm not going to obey that law. I don't like that the law. The sheriff doesn't like that law. That is his job to enforce the law.
Trump demands payroll tax cut while GOP eyes benefit cuts for unemployed - The Washington Post
"I would consider not signing it if we don't have a payroll tax cut," Trump said in an interview on "Fox News Sunday." Democrats strongly oppose a payroll tax cut, and some Republicans have been cool to it, but Trump said "a lot of Republicans like it."
Trump also said "we do need some kind of immunity" in the bill. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has repeatedly insisted the legislation must include liability protections for businesses, health-care providers, schools and others. Democrats oppose this, too.
Evanston, Illinois, finds innovative solution to funding reparations: Marijuana sales taxes - ABC
But while Asheville's resolution promises reparations, it does not say when or how they will be paid for.
Another city has gone further down the road to reparations than any other and may be a model for the small but growing number of places considering making amends for past racial injustice, including Seattle; Providence, Rhode Island; and the state of California.
Last November, Evanston, Illinois, not only adopted a resolution for reparations as part of the city budget, it found an inventive source of funds: tax revenue from newly legalized marijuana sales.

If you underpaid your taxes in 2019 and now owe the IRS a lump sum, being late with your tax return could have serious consequences. First, you'll face a failure to file penalty that amount to 5% of your unpaid tax bill for each month or partial month your return is late, up to a total of 25%. What this means is that if you were to file your taxes tomorrow, you'd still face a 5% penalty for being late with your return, but you'd at least minimize the damage by acting quickly.
