Breakaway signs up accountants, bookkeepers and advisors as virtual CFOs | Accounting Today

Breakaway Bookkeeping & Advising, a startup company based in Portland, Oregon, is starting to build a network of accountants, bookkeepers and financial advisors who can act as virtual CFOs for small-business clients.

"Typically it's just a business that needs an accounting function but they're not big enough to have their own accounting department, or their own internal controller, so we're kind of filling that gap," said Keats.

Art of Accounting: Must-read books on managing a practice | Accounting Today

No one can ever know everything they need to know about any topic. I find that most business people do not take advantage of the experiences of others to better themselves and their businesses.

Management of an accounting practice (MAP) articles and books offer a wealth of information, shared experiences, best practices and hard-learned secret sauces yet they are not taken advantage of by a large majority of accountants.

UK accounting firms criticised by watchdog for 'unacceptable' work | Business | The Guardian

The accounting watchdog has hit out at the UK's largest auditors, after its annual inspection uncovered an "unacceptable" number of poorly executed company audits.

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) said a third of the 88 company audits included in its latest review fell short and required more than just "limited improvements" to meet industry standards. That is more than the 25% that fell short last year.
