A Colorado man filed a class-action lawsuit this week in U.S. District Court in Denver alleging that King Soopers and parent companies The Kroger Co. and Dillon Cos. have systematically violated labor laws by withholding overtime pay from assistant store managers.
Attorneys for William Powell, a Littleton resident who worked at a Grand Junction King Soopers from 2016 to 2019, claim that the grocery chain incorrectly classifies assistant managers as exempt from overtime pay despite those employees’ having essentially the same job function as hourly employees who are eligible to be paid time and a half when they work more than 40 hours in a week or 12 hours in a day.

Massachusetts State Police Colonel Christopher S. Mason announced in January that the department would move to fire 22 troopers who had committed overtime fraud and were found to have collected thousands of dollars in pay for hours they never worked.
But this week the department revealed that most of the troopers implicated — but never criminally charged in a widespread payroll scandal — will get to keep their jobs after all. And they will likely keep their pensions.

BOSTON (CBS) – Twenty-two for Troop E members who remained with the State Police after a fraudulent overtime scandal rocked the troop will be disciplined, state police said.
The State Police audit of Troop E found 46 members has billed the department for overtime not actually worked. Ten of those troopers were criminally charged and convicted. Fourteen members retired around the time of the investigation. Those cases have been referred to the State Retirement Board for pension forfeiture.

Additional pay that went to school board employees did not come from overtime and was used to compensate workers who assisted with a meal program for children at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Iberville Parish School Board Superintendent Dr. Arthur Joffrion.
Joffrion made his comments in response to a segment from a Baton Rouge TV station that alleged more than $300,000 in overtime pay went to school board workers.
WBRZ obtained the documents through a public records request, but the report said the records only listed names of the employees and not the amount they were compensated.

The City Council Wednesday confirmed orders for two future hearings: one to discuss the reallocation of the Boston Police Department's overtime funds, and another to discuss upcoming police contract negotiations.
The orders follow Mayor Marty Walsh's proposal to cut $12 million, or 20 percent, of BPD's overtime budget. The money would then be repurposed toward efforts combating systemic racism.
The mayor's decision, announced on June 12, came as a response to national calls for police reform and years of controversy surrounding Boston police officers' rising salaries.
