NBC 7 Investigates found SDPD officers logged 110,000 hours of overtime during two-week span from late May to early June, reports NBC 7 Investigates’ Alexis Rivas.
Protests partially fueled by calls to defund local police agencies resulted in $8.6 million in taxpayer funds to pay for overtime for San Diego Police Department officers.
The $8.6 million in overtime pay is nearly 27% of the total annual overtime that SDPD paid during fiscal year 2019, when the city paid $31.9 million, the highest since 2015/2016.

The city's Fiscal Year 2021 budget, passed in June, allotted for a roughly 60% decrease in overtime pay for the NYPD.
But a new report from the city's non-partisan Independent Budget Office issued Tuesday said it predicts the NYPD could exceed the $268 million budgeted for overtime by nearly 150%, or $400 million.
Wage Wars: Five Things Arizona Employees Should Know When an Arizona Employer Fails to Pay Wages
Employers are legally obligated to pay employees wages for the work they perform. However, there are unfortunately circumstances in which an employer may refuse to pay their employees. There are at least five things Arizona employees should know when an employer withholds wages.
Arizona law requires employers to pay wages at least twice a month, and pay days can be no more than sixteen days apart. However, different standards apply if the employee no longer works for the employer. If the employer chose to terminate or lay off the employee, all wages must be paid within seven working days or the end of the next regular pay period, whichever is sooner.

Adding this language would allow for the county to remove the finding in future audits, according to county manager Kyle DeHaven.
Commissioner Jerry Jones made a motion to approve the language change and it was seconded by Vice-Chairman James Shackelford. It passed with all in favor.
Commissioners also approved a contract with Chery Bekaert LLP to conduct the county's 2019-20 audit at a cost of $65,000.
The audit's deadline has been pushed to Jan. 31 due to COVID-19, but the county is going to strive to have its audit submitted earlier than the deadline, DeHaven said.
Allstate Shortchanged its Commission-Based Salespeople, Lawsuit Alleges
TORONTO , July 21, 2020 /CNW/ - Allstate Insurance Company of Canada , recognized as one of the country's best employers for eight consecutive years, is facing a class action of more than $80 million for shortchanging its commission-based employees on overtime as well as public holiday and vacation pay.
"Allstate prides itself on being one of the best employers but, in fact, appears to us to incorrectly calculate benefits for their workers or pay overtime" says Monkhouse Law founder Andrew Monkhouse . "The company's practice of not paying commission employees proper overtime and vacation entitlements is denying them their statutory rights. We want to certify this class action to ensure that employees get paid for what they're owed."
