Rogers: What's the deal with property taxes?

Texas' relationship with property taxes is as old as the state itself. For over a century following our independence from Mexico, state property taxes supported over half of the total state revenue.

The "Peveto Bill" did much to create the current system of taxation we have today. Local property taxes levied by various local institutions, such as school districts, counties, cities, and special purpose districts, are to be run through dedicated county appraisal districts.

City eyes taxes, bonds to pay for projects | The Daily Record

Dunn City Council held a special meeting last week to hear several financial options that could be explored in the coming years to help pay for projects related to stormwater, pavement and sewer.

Jimmy Sanderson, senior vice president with Davenport & Co., presented findings of a recent study to council showing the city has the ability to take on future debt in the coming years, but taxpayers may have to pay for it.

IRS overlooked billions in taxes from S corp execs | Accounting Today

The Internal Revenue Service has stepped up efforts to collect employment taxes from S corporation officers, but business owners are still getting away with avoiding billions of dollars in taxes.

Business owners have been leveraging the strategy for a number of years predating the passage of the TCJA. "The issue of S corporations not paying salaries to officers and avoiding employment taxes has been reported for many years," said the report.
