No-show New York State employee earned thousands in overtime pay during pandemic, officials say |

Connolly was assigned as staging manager at Colonie’s Jupiter warehouse on evenings and weekends to help oversee, track and secure shipments of donated and purchased equipment. This included ventilators, PPE and other materials.

In June 2020, Connolly got a whole day’s worth of overtime pay even though she wasn’t present at her scheduled time. She earned $2,265 in overtime pay for purported work on June 7, 20 and 21.

L.A. cut police budget, but overtime costs continue to mount - Los Angeles Times

During the budget year that ended June 30, LAPD officers worked more than 680,000 overtime hours for which they have not yet been compensated, according to figures provided to The Times by the LAPD and the city's financial analysts.

When those officers get paid, potentially years in the future, the cost will almost certainly be more expensive, said Dustin DeRollo, spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the union that represents rank-and-file LAPD officers.

China spells out how excessive overtime culture is illegal | The Seattle Times

China has issued its most comprehensive warning yet against the excessive-work culture that pervades the country’s largest corporations, using real and richly detailed court disputes to address a growing backlash against the punishing demands of the private sector.

The Supreme People’s Court and Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security published a lengthy essay Friday about labor violations and unreasonable overtime, labeled “996” because of the common practice of working 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week.

Louisiana crawfish processor forced to pay USD 140,000 for labor law violations

Crowley, Louisiana, U.S.A.-based Acadia Processors has paid USD 138,629 (EUR 118,000) after an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor found it owed back wages to 100 employees.

In June 2020, the Center for Migrant Rights filed a whistleblower complaint with the department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration on behalf of two former Acadia Processors workers who tested positive for COVID-19.

Riverside Congressman Takano pushes for 32-hour workweek | Business | highlandnews.net

A bill recently introduced by Congressman Mark Takano would reduce the American workweek from 40 to 32 hours to alleviate the exhaustion of overtime and help employees feel they are being paid fairly, according to Takano's website.

Takano, D-Riverside, is pushing for the 32-Hour Workweek Act because workers are toiling longer hours, above the 40-hour work load, and their pay is remaining stagnant.
