UM College of Business panel highlights diversity, equity and inclusion  - The University of

The University of Montevallo's Stephens College of Business hosted a virtual panel of distinguished alums on July 15 to discuss the important roles diversity, equity and inclusion play in the college's mission.

Panelists included UM Student Diversity Recruitment and Retention Coordinator Jason Perry, Sociallyin Executive Administrator Claire Quirk, University of Alabama Culverhouse College of Business Academic Advisor Jasmine Thomas and Morgan Stanley Certified Financial Planner Liucija Smaizyte

Minority Business Development Center hosts forum in Twin-Cities, helps business owners navigate

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD/WYZZ) — Wednesday evening, the Minority Business Development Center hosted an open forum, helping minority business owners in the Twin-Cities navigate the application for Illinois “Back 2 Business” grant.

The grant offers $250 million to be distributed to businesses that experienced loss during the pandemic. It also prioritizes industries most impacted by COVID-19, businesses that did not receive any relief yet, and businesses that are in disproportionately impacted areas.

South Portland Library now open for business - Portland Press Herald

The Main Library in South Portland is now open to patrons after work was completed on the property recently.

The city of South Portland began a lengthy utility and streetscape improvement project the first week of April that is expected to last until this fall, according to an Aug. 16 update on the library website.

Black small business owners unite for 2nd annual Black Entrepreneur State Fair in Minneapolis |

MINNEAPOLIS — After a year met with a pandemic and civil unrest, many small businesses across Minneapolis were hit hard, especially those owned by people of color.

According to a recent  federal report on small businesses, Black business ownership fell more than 40% between February and April of last year. Making it the largest drop of any racial group.

Old Navy integrates its plus-size women's business

New York – Gap Inc.'s low-price division Old Navy is overhauling its approach to how it designs and markets to plus-size women, a demographic that many analysts say has been underserved.

Starting Friday, Old Navy will be offering every one of its women's styles in all sizes with no price difference. That means sizes 0-28 in stores and up to size 30 online.

Candi Cane Wireless owner trying to rebuild business after weekend car crash

Brenda Hughes from the Jackson Michigan Giving Back to the Community non-profit is aching for her neighbor.

"I was in New York for a little mini vacation and I got a phone call so I thought it was just a prank," Hughes said. "Then pictures were coming through. I cried because we put in so much work to make this little area a community where people can come and enjoy and take a breather and sit around.
