2020/03/12 UK Budget 2020 – Asset Holding Companies in Alternative Fund Structures | Dechert LLP

The government is pursuing a review of taxation and relevant areas of regulation applicable to the existing UK funds regime in order to ensure its ongoing competitiveness and sustainability.

As an opening step, there is to be both a review of the value-added tax (VAT) charges on investment management fees and also an exploration of the attractiveness of a new UK intermediate asset holding company (UK AH) vehicle through which alternative funds could hold assets. This might be achieved either through changes to existing UK tax rules applicable to companies or by the creation of a new bespoke tax regime for such UK AHs.

Everyone should have a budget | Hotel Management

The global branded operators should look to the budget sector to help drive future growth and support loyalty programmes, was the message from Zleep Hotels' CEO Peter Haaber.

The sector has seen a move towards the upper end of the market in recent years, with the focus moving away from economy and budget.

Haaber told us: "Every company should have one of these local brands in their sector. Budget brands are more local than other brands; they are used more by the domestic market. Our brands are much more local than a five-star brands; in the UK everyone knows about Travelodge and in the Germany everyone knows about Motel One.

Canada's energy companies continue to cut capital spending budgets amid plunging oil prices - The

Canada's oil and gas producers are continuing to cut billions of dollars from capital spending budgets and reduce payouts to investors in the wake of this week's sharp plunge in oil prices.

Calgary-based ARC Resources Ltd. said Friday it will chop its 2020 spending budget to no more than $300-million from $500-million and cut its monthly dividend to two cents from five cents.

"The rapid decline in global commodity prices has created a significant headwind for energy producers, and we feel it is prudent to adjust our spending levels in order to protect our balance sheet and to ensure the sustainability of our business," said ARC CEO Terry Anderson in a statement.

While you're here, how about this:

How to Budget for the Enormous Cost of Bad Hiring Decisions

While inquiring about the status of a hiring manager interview training proposal, a client told me she would get back to me as soon as they got their new budget approved. As part of our discussion I asked this important question:

What is the company's budget for bad hires?

* * *

This case was no different. However, I followed up by saying that getting a rough estimate of the cost of bad hiring decisions was easy to calculate. All you have to do is multiple the percent of people who shouldn't have been hired in the first place by the company's total annual increase in payroll costs for new hires.

UK Budget 2020 - 5 key measures | White & Case LLP - JDSupra

Compounding the Bank of England’s decision to slash interest rates to 0.25%, the UK Government sent a message loud and clear today that it is braced - yet prepared - for the potentially devastating (but temporary) impact of COVID-19 on the UK economy. Resultant funding for UK business and the National Health Service was central to Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s announcements, as were tax measures to “get things done” :

Anti-forestalling measures will apply to arrangements entered into before 11 March 2020, for example an unconditional contract entered into prior to 11 March 2020 with completion to occur after that date, in which case the disposal is treated as taking place at that later date.
