Some US banks on Monday offered employees one-time bonuses to help ease the financial burden of the coronavirus pandemic and as a reward for working through the crisis.
Banks have largely been excluded from government-mandated shutdowns across the country because they are considered an essential industry by the federal government, meaning most bank branches, call centers and trading floors have stayed open even as many firms send their employees home.

Ex-Bloomberg staffer sues campaign for allegedly refusing to pay overtime
A former staffer claims billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s failed presidential campaign cheated her and other workers out of overtime wages — then left them without medical insurance in the face of a global pandemic, according to a federal lawsuit filed Monday.
Former field organizer Donna Wood claims in the class-action suit that the campaign violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by refusing to pay her and other staffers an overtime rate for the hours they worked beyond a standard work week, according to the suit filed in the Southern District of New York.

(CNN) — A wave of top US retailers and grocers are giving cash bonuses and wage hikes to their cashiers, stockers and warehouse workers on the front lines of the coronavirus crisis.
The pay bumps, designed to retain and reward workers during the pandemic, are temporary. But industry critics hope they serve as a path forward toward improved pay for some of America’s low-wage workers.
Walmart will pay special cash bonuses to its full- and part-time hourly workers totaling $550 million and raise wages for workers at its fulfillment centers by $2 an hour through Memorial Day. Amazon is temporarily boosting its minimum wage for hourly workers to $17 an hour, up from $15, and raising overtime pay for warehouse workers. Target is also upping its minimum wage to $17 for hourly workers and paying out bonuses to 20,000 hourly store team leaders.

(Reuters) - Amazon.com Inc said on Saturday it is raising overtime pay for associates working in its U.S. warehouses as the world's largest online retailer tries to meet the rapidly growing demand for online shopping from consumers stuck at home during the coronavirus outbreak.
Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos, the world's richest person, also said on Saturday, "My own time and thinking is now wholly focused on COVID-19 and on how Amazon can best play its role," according to a message posted on a company website.

With a majority of the U.S. in a self-quarantine mode in order to curb coronavirus cases, more Americans are having to rely on companies like online retail giant Amazon for goods delivered directly to their residences. With the increased demand for online shopping, Amazon is increasing overtime pay for warehouse workers.
Per a Reuters report, “hourly workers at Amazon's U.S. warehouses will receive double pay after 40 hours for overtime, up from the 1.5-times rate, from March 15 through May 9, the rate increase announcement said. This is the second time the e-commerce giant announced an increase in pay for its workers in a week.
