Real World Economics: Torts have many problems, some solutions – Twin Cities

Tort liability lawsuits seem as American as apple pie. The spate of suits faced by 3M over alleged defects in earplugs discussed in last week's column is just an example. In no other industrialized country are they as widespread as here nor involve so much money.

Is this good or bad? Yes, we define the end of the spectrum in terms of such litigation relative to overall economic activity. However, maybe everyone else is "under-lawyered," rather than us being "over-lawyered." How would we know?

Supply side economics - BusinessWorld Online

Supply side economics postulates that tax cuts and deregulation will lead to increased investment and economic growth.

The title of this column doesn't refer to this type of supply side economics, which has been shown to be "voodoo economics," in the words of former US President George Bush. Wealth didn't "trickle down." Rather inequality and fiscal deficits widened.

Governance In Tamil Nadu – More Politics Than Economics

After ten years of governance by the AIADMK party , the DMK party was voted to power in the state assembly elections in Tamil Nadu seven months back with an absolute majority.

The majority of people voted for DMK and its allies mainly due to the promises during the pre-election campaign that corruption would be rooted out in Tamil Nadu and some freebies would be extended to the people in addition to the several existing freebies.
