Over an hour of discussion was spent on whether to approve a new base pay for the Washington County Ambulance Service director and whether to pay for overtime worked in the last few months due to a staff shortage.
This October the supervisors approved pay increases for all ambulance staff to help retain employees and attract new ones to the service that has been county-operated for over a year.
Lakeland Fire Dept. adding 6 positions to reduce mandatory OT pressure
Lakeland has given the city's fire department permission to hire six employees as part of its attempt to reduce the need for mandatory overtime work.
In a letter to all personnel dated Tuesday, Lakeland Fire Chief Douglas Riley said the department is taking applications for six new firefighter positions, or two per shift. Riley wrote that the move will "increase staffing to minimize the effects of mandatory overtime for all personnel."
