Federal investigation, consent judgment leads to recovery of $170K in back wages, damages for 17

AUSTIN, TX – A federal investigation and consent judgment has recovered $170,000 in back wages and liquidated damages from the operator of two Austin-area restaurants who denied overtime to 17 kitchen workers who labored 60 hours a week.

T he U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas in Austin approved a consent agreement requiring B & G North LLC and Sir Sai Balaji LLC, operator of Biryani N Grill locations in North and South Austin to pay the back wages and damages by Sept. 1, 2021.

Federal lawsuit leads to new policy on overtime pay for Roanoke firefighters | Local News |

Kyle Inman, James Reynolds and Nicholas Sosik had asserted in a lawsuit filed in federal court that they were not fairly paid when they were deployed to Virginia Beach for emergency duty related to Hurricane Dorian in September 2019.

Roanoke denied the firefighters should have been paid overtime under Virginia law or the Fair Labor Standards Act.

All State Troopers Given Body Cameras After Overtime Scandal – CBS Boston

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts State Police announced Thursday that all of its troopers have been assigned body cameras, a reform that was ordered in 2018 after the agency was rocked by an overtime scandal .

"This is essential to capturing evidence for criminal cases as well as memorializing the nature of interactions between Troopers and the public," Mason said in a statement. "Body camera video also provides a valuable training tool for recruits and existing officers."

The Department of Labor's Caregiver Wage Initiative May Fall Short of Its Goal Unless It Also

On November 23, 2021, the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division announced an education, outreach and enforcement initiative to ensure employers pay professional caregivers minimum wage and overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.

This new initiative comes as the DOL spent the last several years investigating home care agencies for failing to pay overtime wages to home care workers. In 2021 alone, the DOL reports that it has recovered more than $38.7 million in back wages for healthcare industry workers.

UCLA study probes SMPD budget - Santa Monica Daily Press
