Summit County property values, taxes lowered through complaints

Summit County property owners who filed an unprecedented 4,662 challenges to skyrocketing property values this year were successful more than half the time in lowering their valuations and, by extension, their tax bills.

Some communities had much greater shares of homeowners and businesses who sought and won reductions. And because property tax levies are structured to generate no less revenue for schools, municipalities and other public agencies, a lower tax bill for some means a higher tax bill for others.
