Long hours without overtime pay for farmworkers lead to health problems, less family time, OHSU

An Oregon Health & Science University report released Wednesday found Oregon farmworkers are often made to work overtime without additional compensation, leading to financial strain and taking a toll on workers' physical and mental wellbeing.

Enbridge Inspectors Get $3.43 Million Overtime Deal Approved

A $3.43 million settlement between Enbridge U.S. Inc. and 475 pipeline inspectors who alleged they were misclassified as exempt from overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act and Pennsylvania law was granted final approval Friday by a federal judge in Pittsburgh.

The workers will split about $2.2 million, with each receiving individual payments based on the amount of weeks worked.

Farmworker overtime debate to continue into next year

The New York State Department of Labor announced Wednesday plans to hold public hearings next month on the effect of lowering the threshold for overtime pay for farmworkers in the state. 

The announcement of the hearings likely means the pitched debate over the issue will continue into next year.

All Massachusetts State Troopers Given Body Cameras After Overtime Scandal – CBS Boston

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts State Police announced Thursday that all of its troopers have been assigned body cameras, a reform that was ordered in 2018 after the agency was rocked by an overtime scandal .

"This is essential to capturing evidence for criminal cases as well as memorializing the nature of interactions between Troopers and the public," Mason said in a statement. "Body camera video also provides a valuable training tool for recruits and existing officers."
