Decision on overtime pay for farmworkers delayed – Daily Freeman

A decision on changing the overtime threshold for farmworkers from 60 to 40 hours per week will be made in January, not December as originally scheduled.

A state Farm Laborers Wage Board will hold three public hearings via Zoom — on Jan. 4, Jan. 11 and Jan. 18. The wage board had been scheduled to reconvene between Dec. 15 and the end of December to make a decision.

Investigation finds 2 Oahu restaurants 'shortchanged' cooks by failing to pay overtime

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two Oahu restaurants have been ordered to pay tens of thousands of dollars after an investigation found they "shortchanged" their kitchen cooks by failing to pay workers overtime wages and accurately record the hours they worked, the U.S. Department of Labor said.

City will pay overtime to employees required to work unpaid hours by former Comptroller Joan

The Scott administration has agreed to pay $119,839 in back overtime wages to eight current and former employees at the comptroller's office as part of a settlement with the U.S. Department of Labor.

The payments will end a DOL investigation into violations of the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act under Joan Pratt, whose 25-year tenure as Baltimore's elected comptroller ended in December 2020.

$25K Jupiter police overtime lawsuit settlement approved by judge

Although the settlement addressed financial claims by the officers, one active and two retired from the department, it does not speak to the political fallout the lawsuit has caused in Jupiter, a town not previously known for political back-and-forth.

Those frustrations escalated at the end of the summer to standing-room only meetings where police officers, their families and former town staff members packed Jupiter's Town Council chambers and called for former Town Manager Matt Benoit's job.

Commissioners: $1.6 million in ARP bonuses not tied to labor grievance

MUNCIE, Ind. — In a special meeting Friday afternoon Delaware County Commissioners authorized $1.6 million in American Rescue Plan money to be spent on "retention" salary bonuses for county workers.

The bonuses will vary in size depending on factors including years of service to the county, said commissioners President James King.

Family Dollar Workers Describe Long Hours, Sleeping on Boxes

Former Family Dollar workers who received money from the chain through arbitration have publicly revealed their complaints for the first time. 

Family Dollar workers said they worked so much overtime they slept at the store instead of going home to rest between shifts. One worker said he slept on cardboard boxes piled on a metal cart, and another slept in an office chair during days he did double or triple shifts.

For years, newsrooms have tolerated the kind of behavior they’d investigate if it were happening elsewhere. That finally seems to be shifting, and in 2022 newsroom workers will grow stronger in their fight back.

Pretty much every place I've worked has had at least one open sexual harassment secret, a person whose advances whisper networks would warn others about. Many have also had inequitable pay structures and the expectation of things like unpaid overtime.
