Johnnie St. Vrain: Perplexing parking problem, new tax time approaches

I would never think to park on the opposite side of the street. Are there any rules or laws regarding this? I would like to talk to this gal and ask her to park on her own side of the street, but would like to have some info before doing so. What are the parking regulations for residential Longmont?

It’s a trivial problem, I know. But it is an annoyance and having an annoyance in your own home due to a neighbor seems unjust.

Dear Reader: Though what you’re describing seems like a small dilemma, I can understand why it’s so vexing. It’s usually when I’m trying to fall asleep, but often I find myself thinking of how a roommate leaves lights on or seems incapable of loading a dishwasher. Having that kind of stuff so near, or in, your own home can definitely get on your nerves.

What to Expect from the Digital Services Act - Infosecurity Magazine

The EU’s Ecommerce Directive (ECD) is two decades old this year, and it’s time for an overhaul. Officials are already working on it, and businesses should be ready for change.

The Directive removed barriers for cross-border online business by giving companies more legal certainty about operating rules. When it was created, the first dot com bubble was bursting and Napster was still a thing. A lot has changed.

The European Commission, which is the executive branch of the EU, realizes that it’s time for a review. Last year, its then-president-elect (now president) Ursula von der Leyen published its Political Guidelines for 2019-2024 . One measure stood out: new legislation called the Digital Services Act. Details were scarce, but the document revealed it “will upgrade our liability and safety rules for digital platforms, services and products, and complete our Digital Single Market.

Quite a lot has been going on:

Determining China Income Tax Liability for Expats: COVID-19 Travel Ban

As a result, there will be significant changes to the residence days for the tax year 2020 for many expats who work in China. Some expats who were previously working in China may now be stranded overseas and unable to come back to work in China at present. On the other hand, some expats who previously came to China for multiple short-term business trips may be looking to stay in China for a longer period, due to travel restrictions worldwide.

An individual is regarded as being domiciled in China if he/ she habitually resides in China due to household registration, family, or economic interests. Expats working in China usually fall into the category of non-China domiciled individuals.

INSIGHT: Who CARES for Taxpayer Cash Flow? The IRS and Its Quick Refund Fix

Covid-19 relief legislation included allowing a broader use of net operating losses and "quick refunds" to push cash in taxpayers' hands as soon as possible, but did not change the statutory period for seeking quick refunds. Mayer Brown attorneys explain how the IRS extended the deadline for seeking quick refunds and how the IRS reviews quick refund claims.

As part of the effort to help businesses weather the Covid-19 storm, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) made significant changes to broaden the use of net operating loss (NOL) carrybacks and carryforwards. But in its haste to act, Congress failed to make a statutory change needed to put cash from those NOLs in taxpayers' hands as soon as possible.
