The contributions have helped the group, called OneAlaska, substantially outspend and outraise Vote Yes for Alaska's Fair Share, the group supporting the initiative to increase oil production taxes.

No payroll taxes on J-1 visa workers | News, Sports, Jobs - Adirondack Daily Enterprise

The availability of a J-1 visa, as mentioned in a letter recently, piqued my curiosity, and upon further research it appears that employees and employers are exempt from payroll taxes on said employees. An employer pays 6.2% of an employees’ earnings to Social security up to a maximum and 1.45% of earnings to Medicare. Having a large number of these employees would save the employer a considerable amount of money.

Good news, bad news on taxes for coronavirus relief money

(CNN) - Billions of federal coronavirus relief dollars are going straight to Americans, but will they have to send some of that money back to Uncle Sam at tax time?

First, the good news: The money in stimulus checks is tax-free and won't count as income for government assistance programs.

The bad: If you're out of work, you'll owe federal and possibly state and local taxes on any unemployment benefits you collect, including the $600 weekly boost approved by Congress as part of its economic rescue package.

In his letter, the Governor voices his support of lessening the tax burden on Texans but clarifies that local governments—not the State of Texas—set the property tax rates. Europe to Facebook: Pay taxes and respect our values — or we’ll regulate –

If Facebook chooses to invest in ‘smart’ workarounds — whether for ‘creatively’ shrinking its regional tax bill or circumventing democratic values and processes — the company should expect lawmakers to respond in kind, Breton told Zuckerberg.

“In Europe we have [clear and strong] values. They are clear. And if you understand extremely well the set of our values on which we are building our continent, year after year, you understand how you need to behave,” said the commissioner.
