ICYMI | When Will We Be Able to Breathe in Accounting? - The CPA Journal

In many ways, this statement is exactly what I call for—except such allegiance to racial justice has been uttered decades before. Theresa Hammond notes that the very first pronouncement on race made by the AICPA in 1969 included the much the same rhetoric, refuting discrimination based upon race, sex, or national origin in accounting firms. Specifically, the AICPA Council passed the following three-point resolution to ameliorate the situation:

SEC stance on SPAC warrant accounting demands closer look | Accounting Today

The "Replacement of Securities upon Reorganization, etc." section in many SPAC warrant agreements contains a seemingly never-ending sentence that stretches three quarters of the page, and the associated accounting guidance is equally challenging to interpret. EU Considering Tighter Biomass Carbon Accounting | CleanTechnica

In response to evidence that it may be worse for the climate than burning coal and gas, the EU is considering tightening rules governing the classification of wood and wood pellets as "renewable energy."

About 20% of EU energy comes from renewable sources, and biomass, including wood pellets, accounts for nearly two-thirds of renewable energy generated in the EU under current rules.

Biomass has been considered climate neutral because trees will eventually grow back, but that accounting fails to address the complexity of the carbon cycle and reality of the timber industry. It's a calculation Asbjørn Torvanger, a senior researcher at the Centre for International Climate Research in Oslo, Norway, described to Energy Monitor as "a simplification of greenhouse gas accounting, [based on] limited knowledge of the timing and permanency of carbon storage in forests and soil."

Accounting firms slowly return to offices while giving employees flexibility | Accounting Today

Accounting firms, like many businesses, are reopening their doors as the COVID-19 pandemic recedes thanks to wide availability of vaccines in the U.S., but they're trying to avoid alienating staff.

Firms have been welcoming back employees who have been working from home for over a year, but giving them options to keep working remotely, if they choose, to avoid losing talented staff and partners to the competition.
