Tax Challenges of the New Digital Assets—and their Treatment in Portugal

Rogério M. Fernandes Ferreira of RFF & Associados explains the challenges to international tax systems presented by the unique, identifiable digital assets which are non-fungible tokens, and discusses their current treatment in the Portuguese tax framework.

The last decade has witnessed the rise of new digital financial assets that bring significant legal challenges regarding the taxation of the income they generate.

Even before solid solutions have been reached regarding cryptocurrencies (the most prominent of these new assets, which have already been around for a decade) non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are taking the world by storm.

FROM the STATEHOUSE | Newport This Week

Summer is upon us, and with the increased vaccination rate making tourism possible now, places like our district in Newport are pleased and relieved to welcome visitors again.

As the tourism industry tries to recover from the devastation impacts of a lost year, our state must get back to work on unresolved issues concerning short-term rentals offered by third-party hosting platforms such as Airbnb and VRBO.

Without any interaction between the landlord and the renter who secures the property through the third-party platform, there is little vetting of renters, and rarely any management or other means available to discourage renters from using properties for out-of-control gatherings.

Amazon delivery drivers risk write-ups and injuries as they race to your door - CNET

Amazon drivers can get written up for failing to deliver a package, even if it was beyond their control.

That's why Samantha, a driver who works for an Amazon delivery subcontractor in Northern California, invested in a pee funnel. The device, which does exactly what you think it does, lets her urinate into a container without leaving her van.

"If I drive to a bathroom I'm going to be behind by five or six stops," said Samantha, who asked to be identified only by her first name.

How Trump's trade war built China's first global fashion giant

The kids, though, are all over it. As with so many online phenomena, Gen Z and young millennial shoppers have propelled Shein's rise, in thrall to the company's never-ending, always-changing catalog of clothes at prices that stretch even the most meager allowance.

One recent Thursday, the app debuted 6,239 new items, including a floral backless halter top ($5), purple dinosaur-print PJs ($10), and a prom-perfect fitted butterfly-sleeve dress with pearl trim ($22). Earlier this year, a U.K. blogger crowed that she'd paid just 100 for more than 30 Shein bikinis, a clearly impractical number of swimsuits until you remember that social media audiences demand novelty above all.
