The Massachusetts film tax credit program is in jeopardy, and is threatening a burgeoning industry in Berkshire County.
Effective since January 2006, the credits grant production companies making films, television series, videos, digital media and streaming projects, and commercials with in-state spending budgets over $50,000 a 25 percent tax credit on payroll and production, as well as a sales tax exemption.
With the program's expiration date of January 2023 looming, state representatives voted unanimously this spring both to maintain the tax credit as well as to remove the sunset provision. State senators, however, countered with their own amendments to the bill.

WEIRTON — What began as a celebration of 100 years of history for a local business ended with the announcement it soon would be closing its doors.
Surrounded by family and friends at the American Legion Post 10 hall Saturday afternoon, Fred Marsh, owner of Marsh Pipe and Supply, announced the business operated by his family for the last century would cease operations later this summer. Marsh detailed how his grandfather’s brother, George H. Marsh, in March 1920, bought into the Purdy General Store in what is now Weirton’s downtown.

Boral sells U.S. products business after rejecting Seven bid | Reuters

Boral's shares rose as much as 4% to A$7.06, their highest since October 2018, after the building and construction materials supplier revealed its deal to sell the U.S.-based business in a disclosure responding to Seven's bid.
Boral had already asked shareholders to reject an off-market zero premium bid by Seven Group, a conglomerate controlled by Australian media owner Kerry Stokes, saying it undervalued the company.
