Pharma is winning the big business popularity contest - The Verge

That year, technology companies were more popular. In a different survey, just under half of US adults had a positive view of the tech sector. It's hard to compare two different polls head to head, but the general trend is clear: in 2019, people felt better about tech companies than they did about pharma.

But then, the pandemic hit, and the country's recovery depended on the success of vaccines. Government scrutiny of tech companies — from both sides of the aisle — picked up steam. And the two industries seem to have swapped places in the nationwide popularity contest.

The months were long as they gathered permits and waited for construction to finally finish. But just before Memorial Day the wait was over. Nohad and Samia Jourdy reopened Picture Perfect Frames on West 231st Street.

And this time its ceiling is perfectly intact — unlike what happened last November when it collapsed with the two of them inside.

“It’s good to come back for business,” Samia said. “It feels good.”

Traditional communication approaches can set your business apart | Pat Perry | Business |

Prior to the past year's work-from-home mandates and options, a typical scene of an office meeting may have looked something like this:

Some attendees placed their smartphones on top of the conference room table, while others might have set up their laptops and began typing away. As the meeting progressed, phones might have been buzzing with attendees doing the occasional glance to see what notification they were receiving.

It seems that just about everywhere, the use of mobile devices has reduced in-person, face-to-face conversations. And, if it's not the smartphone, messages sent from laptops, desktops, and other mobile devices serve as the core of daily business and personal communications.

Dart: Townsend makes business out of custom pools - Mississippi's Best Community Newspaper |

Anthony Townsend and Henry Smith were cleaning a pool on Thistledown Lane in Natchez, close to where The Dart landed Friday morning.

Since 2008, Townsend said he has owned his own business Custom Pools. Smith said he started working with him about 14 years ago. His daughter was a newborn then. He uses her age to figure out when he began work with Townsend.

One small part or problem can shut down a job site. During The Dart, a piece of equipment broke, which halted their progress on cleaning the pool.
