GOP lawmakers resolve to cut Iowa income taxes in '22 - Radio Iowa

The 2022 Iowa legislative session starts next Monday and Governor Kim Reynolds and her fellow Republicans in the House and Senate are putting tax cuts the top of their agenda.

Do you owe the 'dreaded' alternative minimum tax?

The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) made the alternative minimum tax (AMT) rules much more taxpayer-friendly for 2018-2025, and significantly reduced the odds that you'll owe the tax. And if you do still owe the dreaded AMT, you'll probably owe quite a bit less than before.

The AMT is a separate federal income tax system with a family resemblance to the more-familiar regular federal income tax system.

Most Beaver County municipalities won't raise property taxes in 2022

New NC laws for 2022 include lower taxes and a focus on police officers' mental health |

Lower state income taxes and stronger mandates addressing the mental health of law enforcement officers in North Carolina take effect with the new year.

The budget law also raises the amount of income not subject to taxes through the standard deduction. For example, a married couple filing jointly won't have to pay any taxes on the first $25,500 of income for the 2022 tax year, compared with $21,500 in 2021.

New Texas laws for 2022 tackle property taxes, food delivery services and police funding

The laws taking effect Jan. 1 include several measures concerning property taxes, one that regulates food delivery services and another that forces large counties to hold an election if they want to reduce police funding.

This measure will exempt property taxes for some charitable organizations that aid those experiencing homelessness. The groups must provide permanent housing, and they must have existed for at least 20 years if the property is located in a county.
