Deducting Mealtime from Overtime Pay of Employees on Inactive Duty Violates FLSA

​When an employer acknowledges that "idle time" spent by employees on the return leg of a work flight is compensable travel time, attempts to deduct an hour of mealtime from their overtime pay for the flight violate the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled.

Kforce Shortchanged Recruiters on Overtime Pay, Lawsuit Says (1)

Staffing company Kforce Inc. is facing accusations that it violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by cheating recruiters across the country out of overtime wages in a lawsuit recently filed in a federal court in Florida.

Sam Whiteman, who worked out of a Kforce office in Overland Park, Kan., alleges he and other salaried recruiters were improperly classified as exempt from overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 per week.

San Jose: Japantown apartment owner stiffed workers on overtime

A luxury apartment property owner in San Jose’s Japantown neighborhood was accused of denying maintenance employees overtime pay and failing to accurately track workers’ earnings, violating the Fair Labor Standards Act, according to the U.S.

An investigation announced Wednesday in a news release said Miraido Village LLC, the operator and owner of Miraido Village Apartments, didn’t pay employees overtime wages required by law when they worked more than 40 hours in a week.

Business owner paid ex-worker with 91,000 pennies.

After a former employee of A OK Walker Autoworks filed a complaint with state labor regulators in 2021 accusing the owner of failing to issue his final paycheck of $915, he got an unwelcome surprise: a mountain of 91,000 pennies, covered in oil, dumped in his driveway. 

But the worker, Andreas Flaten, may be having the last laugh. The U.S. Department of Labor has filed a lawsuit against the Peachtree, Georgia-based auto repair shop and owner Miles Walker after deciding that the stunt amounted to retaliation.

UPS Sued by Drivers Seeking Overtime for Pick-Up 'Wait Time' (1)

United Parcel Service Inc. violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by failing to pay overtime to drivers for time spent waiting for packages to be ready for pick-up, according to a new lawsuit filed in a federal court in Atlanta.

The lawsuit was brought by Jennifer Cathryn Yardley, who was employed by UPS to deliver packages in Knoxville, Tenn., using her personal vehicle.

Japan Nov real wages fall for 3rd month as inflation hits stagnant nominal pay | Reuters

TOKYO, Jan 7 (Reuters) - Japan's real wages fell in November for a third month as inflation outstripped stagnant nominal wages, a government data showed.

Inflation-adjusted real wages, a key measure of households' purchasing power, slipped 1.6% in November from a year earlier, the labour ministry said on Friday.

D'Youville College employees shift to four-day workweek | Business Local | buffalonews.com
