Calcasieu voters renew four property taxes; Cameron renewals pass - American Press | American Press

Calcasieu Parish voters overwhelmingly approved four property tax renewals on Saturday, according to complete, yet unofficial results from the Secretary of State's website.

A 10-mill, 10-year property tax renewal for the Community Center and Playground District 4 of Ward 1 received 449 yes votes, or 60 percent, and 305 no votes, or 40 percent. The renewal will take effect Jan.

An investigation revealed that, although Jardine and D&A withheld employees' federal income and FICA taxes over multiple tax periods between 2016 and 2019 and reported those withholdings to the IRS, they failed to pay over the withheld amounts, totaling approximately $868,000.

Personal property taxes up by average of 25% in Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - People in Charlottesville are starting to get their personal property tax bills, and some are may be in for a shock.

Assessments skyrocketed this year. On average, Charlottesville Commissioner of Revenue Todd Divers says personal property is being assessed at 25% more than last year.

Critics call states' switch to flat income tax a boon for the wealthy

There's a recent uptick in states swapping tiered income taxes for a flat tax, charging the same rate to all residents, regardless of earnings.

Over the past 100 years, only four states have changed from graduated rates to flat taxes, according to the Tax Foundation . Another three states — Iowa, Mississippi and Georgia — passed legislation to make the shift this year.

Most Americans could file their taxes for free, but don't - ABC News
