Real World Economics: Nobel economics prizes: New ideas from old lessons – Twin Cities

The Nobel Foundation's 2022 awards for "economic science" to former Fed chair Ben Bernanke and economists Douglas Diamond and Philip Dybvig are deserved and welcome.

All three are good researchers who made scholarly contributions to economics that also have had beneficial practical consequences in real economies — pocketbook issues that you and I feel today. And, unlike some years, none of the three winners are arrogant jerks.

What the Worst Economic Predictions in History Can Teach Us about Economics - Foundation for ...

Economists predict the future course of economic events to show we have a sense of humor. If we could do so accurately, we'd all be very rich, and we're not; we're comfortable, but not fantastically rich (except in our enjoyment of the dismal science).

Why can't we predict the future? Because the world is a complicated place, and millions of things are occurring at once. For example, we know that if nothing else changes, and the government increases the money supply, price rises will be the inevitable result.
