The University of Delaware's Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship (CEEE) has a rich history, dating back to its founding in 1971 by James O'Neill. Under O'Neill's leadership, the center evolved into a nationally recognized hub for economic education, impacting countless students and teachers. In 2013, Carlos Asarta took the reins as director of CEEE, assuming a role that would allow him to carry on O'Neill's legacy. Asarta's dedication to expanding access to economics education has been remarkable, and his tireless efforts have earned him the prestigious James O'Neill Economic Education Multiplier Award in 2025. Asarta's journey with O'Neill began in 2011, when he met the legendary economist over lunch at the Deer Park Tavern on UD's campus. O'Neill was impressed by Asarta's energy, vision, "and commitment to the field.".. and it was clear that Asarta was the ideal candidate to succeed him as director of CEEE.
