Lawmakers pass largest budget in state history - Daily Leader | Daily Leader

After much dickering that held up other budget work late in the session, lawmakers on Friday night agreed to spend about $3 billion on K-12 education, an increase over this year of about $120 million.

The Senate had proposed revamping the state's adequate education formula and fully funding it for the first time in years, which would have cost about $181 million.

Adams Orders New Round of Budget Cuts That Could Erode City Services - The New York Times

For the first time since he took office last year, Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday raised the specter of cutting critical municipal services in response to what his budget director described as worsening economic conditions.

The message, delivered in a letter from the budget director, Jacques Jiha, directed the leaders of nearly every city agency, including the Police Department, to cut their budgets by 4 percent for the coming fiscal year, which begins in July.

Progressives discuss New York budget dynamics

Here lies the danger of the late budget: That the very people responsible for the heavy lifting of creating it may get to a point where the major issues are such an ordeal that there's no gas left in the tank for smaller issues that could be done post-budget.

It's something Charles Khan ,  the organizing director at the Strong Economy for All Coalition, says concerns him.
