Punching In: DOL Defends Its Authority to Regulate Overtime Pay

Rebecca Rainey: The Biden administration is defending a Trump-era overtime rule in federal court in an attempt to quash a lawsuit that threatens to undermine its plans to issue another regulation to expand overtime protections to more workers.

Government attorneys argue that the Trump DOL was well within its authority to update the overtime test, as recognized by prior court rulings, and that Congress explicitly granted the agency the authority to "define and delimit" exemptions to overtime pay requirements.

Supermarkets to pay $800,000 in overtime violation case | News | newburyportnews.com

A Boston-area supermarket chain will pay $800,000 to settle allegations that it violated state labor laws by failing to pay workers overtime and premium weekend rates.

The C-Mart stores, which specialize in Asian foods and are located in Boston's South End and Chinatown neighborhoods as well as in Quincy, were issued 15 citations in 2021 following an investigation by the attorney general's Fair Labor Division.

Mayor: COVID-related OT drove up East Hartford police and fire pay

Nine police officers and five firefighters were among the top-15 highest paid East Hartford employees in the 2021-22 fiscal year, data shows.

EAST HARTFORD — Police officers and firefighters topped the town's payroll for fiscal year 2021-22, in part due to overtime costs related to the COVID pandemic, officials said.
