French food services and facilities management company Sodexo, which employs 760 people in Maine, on Monday unveiled plans to invest at least $1 million in the state's food economy during 2021.
The company said it will do so in the form of local food purchases via more than 130 existing partnerships with farms, food producers and fisheries.
Sodexo noted that Maine has 7,600 farms, more than any other New England state, 40% of which are owned by Mainers under age 34.
Centrex Metals (ASX:CXM) appoints new CEO - The Market Herald
Centrex Metals (CXM) has appointed Robert Mencel as Chief Executive Officer of the company, effective from May 24.
The appointment comes with a base salary of $390,000 exclusive of superannuation, plus participation in an incentive scheme.
Robert Mencel comes with more than 25 years' experience developing and operating a wide range of mining, mineral processing and engineering operations.
This announcement comes after the news that Centrex has completed its initial stage of mining at the Ardmore Phosphate Deposit, with costs coming in substantially below the company's budget expectations. During this stage, just over 25,000 tonnes of ore was stockpiled.
Additionally, the process of funding an additional $1 million is proceeding, with the work to complete preconditions required under the agreement being undertaken. This funding is set to be received by the end of the month.
Australian McCormick Food workers' strike ended by United Workers Union - World Socialist Web Site
Almost 100 manufacturing workers at a McCormick Foods plant in Melbourne ended their six-week strike on April 7 after the United Workers Union (UWU) brokered what appears to be an "in principle" agreement with company management.
The UWU has claimed a major "win" for the workers. It has reported that the deal includes: "Retaining ALL previous conditions the company wanted to remove including the four-day week roster; 9 percent pay rise across 3 years; $5,000 sign on bonus."
Be a Sponsor - SNJ Today
I've written about sponsorships and partnerships in this column before but it's worth repeating. Events are fun to have, but they come at a cost. Our operations come at a cost. In order to minimize the effect that our events have on our budget, we seek out sponsors to help defray our costs. Because of the COVID situation forcing us to cancel quite a few of our events last year, our revenue from sponsorships took a hit. We need to help make that up this year.
Partnerships—whether they're sponsorships, grants, donations, or just informal working relationships—accomplish much by making big initiatives possible and bringing to the table a variety of organizations to share in the success and the interest.
