Research and Communication in Accounting ( ACCT 455), a new course, merges the worlds of business and theater with the goal of preparing future accountants to adapt to an ever-changing industry. Ultimately, it prepares students to communicate effectively in the workplace during even the most unpredictable situations.
"Responding in real time during unexpected or unstructured situations is very important for our students in their careers because much of their work will require evolving, fast-moving conversations with clients and colleagues," said Amanda Gonzales, associate professor of practice in accountancy, who partnered with Julie Uribe, lecturer at the Johnny Carson School of Theater and Film, to develop and teach the new course.

The report, Accounting Class Action Filings and Settlements—2020 Review and Analysis , found that accounting allegations continue to have a substantial impact on securities class actions. Accounting allegations were present in more than 30% of all federal securities class action filings, and accounting cases made up 84% of total settlement dollars in 2020.

LA GRANDE — Eastern Oregon University senior Katie Kitchell made the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants's list of the state's top accounting students for 2020-21.
The OSCPA will recognize Kitchell, along with the top accounting students from other Oregon universities, at its Circle of Excellence Program in mid-June.
Kitchell plans to graduate in June with a degree in business administration, with a concentration in accounting, and a minor in communications, according to an announcement from EOU. She has worked as an intern at Connected Professional Accountants LLC of La Grande for two years and recently started a full-time position there.
