Coronavirus is starting to impact the business of Apple, Facebook, and other companies - Vox

Apple, Amazon, and Facebook have all acknowledged their businesses are being impacted by the global outbreak.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the lockdown on Chinese manufacturing has caused global markets to "shudder" and is casting an "ever-widening shadow" on the economy at large. That's particularly relevant in the tech industry, which depends on Chinese labor to build everything from computer chips to cellphone parts.

Social media companies — which are trying to keep up with a slew of misinformation about the virus's origins and spread — are still financially less impacted than companies like Apple since their main line of business isn't selling physical goods. But even Facebook has been affected, setting reduced production goals for its Oculus Quest virtual reality headsets in part due to a slowdown in Chinese manufacturing because of the virus.

Victoria's Secret takes lingerie business private at $1.1B price tag | Fox Business

L Brands Inc. is taking lingerie business Victoria's Secret private, selling a controlling stake to Sycamore Partners for $525 million and leaving personal-care business Bath & Body Works as a stand-alone public company.

The separation "provides the best path" to restoring profitability at Victoria's Secret, CEO Leslie Wexner said in a statement. Built on sex appeal, the store gained renown for its annual lingerie runway show, which garnered as many as 10 million viewers in 2010 before sliding to less than a third of that as its revealing imagery raised eyebrows in the #MeToo era.

Council Post: Why Trade Shows Are Important For Your Small Business

www.lendingvalley.com ">Chad Otar is the President at Lending Valley, Inc, a one stop shop for business owners' financing needs. Visit us: www.lendingvalley.com

* * *

In our hyperconnected digital world, trade shows can be seen as a bit of a relic, an outmoded business building tool that entrepreneurs shouldn't waste their time on. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Today's ultracompetitive business environment demands smart marketers, savvy entrepreneurs and serious small-business owners build relationships with their prospects, partners and customers. I've found that people are looking for an authentic experience, want to do business with companies that have shared values, and are looking for more of a "human touch," even if the overwhelming majority of their business interactions are handled online or through a mobile app.

The CEO who loved me - Spies often use businesses as cover | Business | The Economist

Ernst Blofeld, head of Spectre, a global criminal syndicate—a man in need of secret communications—would doubtless also have been wise to Crypto AG , a Swiss company that rose to dominate the global market for cipher machines after the second world war. By the 1990s it was apparent that the firm was in bed with the National Security Agency ( NSA ), America's eavesdroppers. The truth, it turns out, was even more remarkable.

The history of intelligence is littered with such front companies, used to collect intelligence or carry out covert skulduggery. "Active Measures: The Secret History of Disinformation and Political Warfare", a forthcoming book by Thomas Rid, describes how the CIA seed-funded and controlled a printing house in Berlin in the 1950s to spread propaganda in the Soviet bloc.
