The Las Vegas City Council agreed Wednesday to pay $560,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a firefighter who claimed to have worked thousands of unreported or underreported overtime hours over a three-year span.
Eric Scheumann, an 18-year veteran of the Las Vegas Fire Department, said he worked more than 5,200 overtime hours, either unreported or underreported, from March 2014 through 2017.
The unpaid wages were also accrued for overtime work that were “separate and distinct” from his duties but benefited the city, according to the amended lawsuit filed in federal court May 15.

BOSTON — Lawmakers are trying to blunt the impact of a court ruling that requires families employing au pairs to pay minimum wage and years of back-pay.
The decision caused turmoil for families hosting au pairs who are trying to comply and pay substantially higher costs. Lawmakers responded to a barrage of complaints from host families with proposals seeking to blunt the impact of the requirements.
One proposal, filed by Rep. Michelle Ciccolo, D-Lexington, and 15 other lawmakers, would give host families up to six months to comply.

Eight employees of Rockland County made more than $200,000 in total pay last year, when including overtime and other extra pay.
Salary records show that all eight worked for the county sheriff and district attorney's offices. Five DA criminal investigators were the top paid county workers in 2019, and accounted for seven of the top 10 earners for the year, according to salary records.

As the Massachusetts State Police work to fire 22 troopers identified by authorities as being part of a sweeping overtime scandal, officials at the state's Retirement Board are still handling the cases of the troopers sentenced and charged in the case.
A total of 10 troopers were charged in either state or federal court in connection with the overtime scandal with many of them already sentenced.
Some of those troopers were not eligible for retirement benefits, but others were receiving pensions from the state. Two of them are still receiving benefits because they have not been convicted or sentenced while others had their pensions suspended.
